i would have too, Katie. Its just Guy (my brother, for anyone who didnt know :p) got a new background for his tank and i got the old one. So i used some on my 8 gal nano and the rest went on the saulosi tank :)

also, i now think that a black background would have made everything much too dark, as i have a black substrate too.

I think that either blue or black would look really good.
The blue really brightens things up, and it does a superb job of contrasting against the yellow coloration of the fish. Black would have been better as far as bringing out the colors of the male too though, but then again, it would make for a darker tank (as you pointed out, Helena). ;)

Does the back side of that blue background have black on it, by any chance? I'm guessing no, otherwise you probably would have tried it, right?

One thing's for sure, it looks a heck of a lot better than the old background! Doesn't distract from the fish at all like the old one did. It brightens things up. And it also brings out the yellow in all of your fish. I'd say that's a pretty significant change for the better. *thumbsups

BV- on the other side of the blue, there is a planted picture, which i was trying to escape lol :p. Yeah, if the other side was black i would have defo tried it.

I now know that the 'sub-dom male' is DEFINATLY a male. Last night when the tank lights were off but the room lights were on, i noticed the sub dom chasing the females so i looked into the tank and the sub dom turned a pale blue!! and also his bars went completly black and his stripe on his dorsal fin was much darker than usual.
:D so yep, i am now 100% positive i have 2 males :D

So glad this thread got bumped up....don't know how I missed it till now. I'm facinated by the gorgeous colors of the fish, and had no idea they changed their coloring depending on pecking order. How cool!

And ALL your shots are great, Helena!
